Unfortunately, there are some people that are unintentionally cruel enough. I see your point though...Occasional use is probably okay. I just didn't like how Anjali looked in that thing. Kind of like a bobble head.

My philosophy on most things is that moderation is okay. Some things, though, I'm not willing to compromise. But we all have different approaches.

Sorry but I can't believe anyone would be stupid / cruel enough to leave a baby in one of these for an hour a day. We have one that we put the baby in for 10/15 mins MAX whilst have a shower / load the dishwasher etc. It's pretty obvious a baby should not be sat in one ( or anything that keeps them in one position / restricts their movement) for prolonged periods, For short, occasional use the bumbo is fine.

Tracy,

Yep. There are times when baby wearing just doesn't work...or your back needs a break :)

A blanket on the floor works well.

I think it is age-dependent. We did use a portable Pack N Play "yard." That was good for when Anjali was crawling, we couldn't have her in arms and we had to get something done.

We did use a swing on occasion too.

Use your instincts.

Keep in mind that if you create a safe environment (ie baby-proofing), the floor can be quite safe.

Hope that was helpful. Thanks for your comment!

Hi,

I'm pregnant and building my supply of baby goods through a combination of Freecycle and a baby registry. Thank you for the information you have provided here, but do you have any recommendations for an alternative to Bumbo that go beyond always wearing the baby? Granted that you recommend maximum baby wearing time, how and where do you recommend that parents place babies during waketime when they are NOT holding or wearing them? I take it that you don't think babies should be upright until they can hold themselves that way, so would you recommend one of those reclined (usually vibrating) "chairs," which do not hold the baby upright? Or do you think just a blanket on the floor is best? Even if I were convinced of the benefits of almost-constant baby wearing, it would never be absolutely constant, so I need an alternative.

Yep. I was surprised too at first. The key is to ONLY give organic, antibiotic and hormone-free, preferably fresh and local eggs.

We gave it to Anjali on a little spoon, or cut a strip of bread for her to dip in the yolk. I think we let her dip cucumber sticks or other veggie sticks in it.

Some people put raw egg in a smoothie.

We're actually strongly considering veganism, so this may be moot for us.

But also check out http://www.westonaprice.org/childrens-health/eat-eggs-and-have-chicken-too

I am floored that it was okay, and not only okay, but healthy to give raw eggs to babies. How exactly do you feed the child the raw egg, simply spooning it or through a bottle?

The saturday before Thanksgiving. Rescheduled gig from that one that got hurricaned out in August. It was a whole lot of fun (and all with NO rehearsals), plus a lot less wind and rain :)
