It's a tricky one to handle. I try to immediately include our daughter into the conversation, rather than try to change other peoples' behavior.

If people that we see frequently (friends or family) I am more likely to make them aware that we may be making Anjali feel like she's not there and to try and include her in the conversation rather than talking like she's not there.

Thanks for your comment!

I agree with everything you said here, especially about the TV part. But what I wanted to comment about is the Hello, I’m right here! situations.

I clearly remember being out and about with my mom, the type of women who knew everyone in town (or at least it's what it seems like), when I was about 5 years old and wondering why would people always speak like I wasn't there... I think that only a few times might not be that weird, but after 5 times the same afternoon, it gets boring and weird!

I really hope the people you are referring to will stop doing that before your daugther reach that age!

Thanks for the comment Timo.

Yes, a dedicated shopping day saves the hassle of reinventing the wheel every week. Thanks for mentioning that.

As far as buying the staple foods we eat on a regular basis...We've now reduced that to one shopping day a month...This is for things like crackers, nuts, raisins, jarred spaghetti sauce, any frozen foods, almond milk, etc.

Then we do our weekly fresh foods shopping once a week.

Jeremy,

These are great tips for saving time. Shopping is definitely one of those areas where we could spend too much time. With little planning, you can cut down the time in half.

Whenever we go shopping, we try to do shop as much as possible. For example if there is a certain foods we eat on consistent basis, we try to buy many packages/boxes at once.

Also, having dedicated shopping days is also a good way to reduce the time spent on shopping.

Cheers,
Timo

That's cool Anniee. It's interesting to take a child-led approach....To really respect their wants and needs, rather than just imposing our idea of the "right" way to do things. The funny thing is that at age 2 now, Anjali often wants us to feed her. Thanks for your comment.

Yep...definitely want to monitor that.
Or, if you haven't bought into this Bumbo yet, skip it altogether...or at least use it WAY less than an hr.

I agree educating other should be done respectfully and without judgement. Sometimes easier said than done. The problem is, people get so defensive so easily when it comes to parenting. I see it all the time.

People use the "I turned out okay..." Or "you turned out okay, despite the fact that you were exposed to x, y and z that you are criticizing..."

That excuse is LAME, and it just doesn't fly.

If you are using a Bumbo regularly, or overusing it...If you have not looked into whether it is safe or not...You are not an idiot. You have just failed to do your research, and that is irresponsible.

You guys should be more sensitive to parents who have used the seat. They obviously don't know it's hindering anything in their child. They are not idiots, they are uninformed as millions of parents are about the pointless crap companies make for babies. Educating others should be done respectfully and w/o judgement. I've never really cares for these seats, but never underminded my sister for using one. I just talked about how squished or uneven her baby looked sitting in it and tried to point out how comfortable her baby was on the floor or in our arms and that the seat never made her any happier.
